Monkey Mia, Australia — Joreel Siegel, January 17th
A day in paradise
After another 5 or 6 hour drive we arrived at the Shark Bay world heritage site where Monkey Mia is situated. It has beautiful scenery. Once we arrived at Monkey Mia we settled into our backpackers and headed down to the beach and shade. It was about 38 again so very hot.
We booked ourselfes into a Sundown cruise for the night and a morning cruise for saturday. The sundown cruise was excellent. Very nice sailing on a nice catamaran. Especially Tim enjoyed himselfe very much. The night was again very very hot, so we slept quite badly. But the next morning we got up early to see the dolphins.
At Monkey Mia dolphins come in every morning and some of them get fed. They are wild dolphins and only get fed a small percentage of their normal diet so they don't rely on the feedings too much. One of the volunteers from the feeding was sleeping in our room and she told us the dolphins failed to show up 3 times already this week (normally only happens 3 times a year), so we were really excited when at 7.30 we saw several groups of dolphins heading for the beach. In total I think about 11 came to the beach, and it was such a great thing to see. Because we knew the girl in our dorm I got the opportunity to feed one of the dolphins myself. I was so happy!!!!
After the feeding we headed out to the catamaran for a morning cruise. What a great trip that was! We saw loads of wildlife: dolphins, dugongs, turtles, sea-snakes, flying fish and a tiger shark. After the sailing trip we chilled out in the shade after getting a horrible sunburn from the sailing trip. That night we went to bed early because we had to get up early again to start driving back south to Perth. Next stop: Kalbarri.
Kalbarri is where I am currently writing from. After 3 nights of sweating and no sleep, we booked our selfs into a nice beach-front villa with airco so I can get a good night sleep. Tommorow I got a 7 hour drive back to Perth and I need to be well rested for that. So I say good-night to you all, and we will check back as soon as we can with some new stories!!

Liefs,
Marry
