Nambung National Park, Australia — Joreel Siegel, January 17th
West Coast Wonders
Thursday morning, 8 am. We're ready to pick up the car and start our west coast trip. I'm very excited, yet a little scared. I have to drive left. Yikes!!! It's been a long time since I drove on the left hand side of the road, and I really need to keep my mind focused!
But once we get going I get the hang of it and soon it's like I never knew any better. Our first stop before we truly left town is the grocery store to stock up on some food. We got a nice breakfast at Subway and after that we started driving. Once outside Perth we needed to get onto the Great Northern highway. Not as easy to find as you'd think, but after a wrong turn and some extra driving we got onto the highway and headed up north.
Our first stop was gonna be Pinnacles Desert at Nambung National park. We got there after a 3,5 hour drive, but it was well worth it. The pinnacles desert is quite an amazing experience. These limestone formations are believed to have appeared and dissapeared under the sandy dunes for tens of thousands of years. Now there is a large amount of the pinnacles exposed in the desert and it is quite a sight. Pinnacles everywhere the eye could see. The colour of the sand is also quite amazing. After walking and driving around for a bit we got back into the car because it was just too hot to walk around any longer. Our next stop: Geraldton.
Once we arrived in Geraldton it took us a bit to find the hostel we booked into. Once we found it we settled in and enjoyed the $2 BBQ the hostel was throwing. Very nice food for little money... what more can we ask for? The rest of the hostel experience wasnt all that great unfortunatly. It was very warm and very smelly, and we hardly slept at all. So the next morning we got up as soon as we could and got the hell out of there. Next stop: Monkey Mia Dolphin Resort.
To be continued......

Lieverds, Rob was midden in de nacht wakker. Hij wilde een gat in het bed maken en door de aardbol heen graven, recht naar beneden, zodat we precies down under bij jullie terecht zouden komen.
